Washington Post tells us to stand back, watch civilization collapse
Topic: Economics

"Like the rain-swollen waters of the Mississippi River, this sudden surge of downbeat news has now overflowed the banks of economic policy and broken through the levees of consumer and investor confidence. At this point, there's not much to do but flee to safety, rescue those in trouble AND LET NATURE TAKE ITS COURSE. And don't let anyone fool you: It will be a while before things return to normal." [emphasis added]

from This Recession, It's Just Beginning

In other words, a recession is like a flood which will recede on its own, although the analogy neglects to consider the enormous amount of work that will need to be done to MAKE things return to normal.  His folksy-sounding proposal that we just flee to safety, rescue those in trouble (i.e. inflate, inflate, inflate) and let NATURE rebuild the economy (!) might be fine for those who have access to Establishment dark-age enclaves, but it means death for the vast majority of mankind.  By implying that it will eventually happen by itself, he hopes to paralyze us.  Perhaps by "normal" he means feudalism.

Another of my favorites is the "rubber ball" analogy, in which economic recovery requires the economy to "hit bottom," perhaps explaining why Congress is doing everything possible to make this happen.
